Faculty Service Area. (FSA) means a service or instructional subject area or group of related services or instructional subject areas (disciplines) established by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District in accordance with Education Code 87743 and Article 15 of the Agreement.

Faculty Service Area means a service or instructional subject area or group of related services or instructional subject areas in which service is performed by faculty. The term “eligibility criteria” refers to criteria by which a faculty member is deemed competent to render service in a faculty service area. 16.1.1 A faculty service area is hereby established for each discipline on the California Community College Board of Governors List of Disciplines. 16.1.2 Faculty service areas and the bumping rights within them shall take effect only in the event of a college-wide reduction in force or program deletion, which results in the dismissal of tenured or probationary faculty members. In the event of the elimination of a program in which faculty members can be reassigned to other areas of the college through the normal reassignment process (as defined in the SMC Equivalency Process), faculty service areas and bumping rights through seniority do not apply.
