Merchant Category Code definition

Merchant Category Code means the code established by a payment network that identifies and classifies goods or services offered by a merchant.
Merchant Category Code means the code assigned to a merchant by Mastercard or Visa or other card associations when the merchant accepts a card from them as form of payment. The code classifies type of goods or services provided by the merchant;
Merchant Category Code means the code, approved by the international organization for standardization or an equivalent successor organization specifically for firearm retailers, that is assigned to a retailer based on the types of goods and services offered to a retailer’s customers.

Merchant Category Code means a four-digit number used by the Payment Card industry to classify suppliers into market segments;
Merchant Category Code or “MCC” means the assignment for each merchant and transaction records is subject to classification by the respective acquiring banks (the bank which maintain the merchant’s bank account and process payments on behalf of the merchants) and it is the responsibility of the particular acquiring bank to assign the MCC and transaction record to the relevant transaction.
