Advanced Standing. These credits will provide graduates with advanced standing in the following majors in the Media Arts and Technology Department should students choose one of the degrees: a. Animation and Motion Graphics (A.S.) b. Multimedia Programming and Design (A.S.) c. Video Arts and Technology (A.S.) To earn credit, the following stipulations apply to the graduates of the CTE’s portfolio of MTD programs: A. Once admitted, students will be eligible for up to 6 college credits in the courses listed below. In order to qualify for these credits, graduates of the CTE’s portfolio of MTD programs must have received an average of B (80 or above) in their CTE MTD high school courses. Curriculum from the CTE program that the students graduated from must include the topics listed below. Media Arts and Technology Department representatives will review the curriculum to assess its alignment and determine the prior learning credits that will be given to the student. a. Curriculum topics required for Introduction to Video Technology (VAT 100) credits include: i. Use and calibrate cameras, microphones, video and audio components and lighting equipment. ii. Identify video and audio editing and delivery systems iii. Categorize the standards and practice of the video industry including SMPTE time code, broadcast and transmission standards, aspect ratio, and RGB color. iv. Plan and execute the production of short films (group projects) b. Curriculum topics required for Foundations of Digital Graphic Design (MMA 100) credits include: i. Understand elements and principles of design and color theory. ii. Use industry standard bitmap and vector graphics applications to create and edit images. iii. Plan and execute effective page layout incorporating principles of graphic design. iv. Use form, color and text as visual vehicles of communication design. v. Critique historic and current works of art and design. vi. Familiarity with Digital Fabrication and set up of a MakerSpace through research or local field trips to sites like BMCC’s MakerSpace. B. Once enrolled at BMCC, prior learning credits will be applied to the course transcripts of eligible CTE Media Technology and Design graduates as follows: a. Introduction to Video Technology (VAT 100, 3 credits) b. Foundations of Digital Graphic Design (MMA 100, 3 credits) C. If either of these courses are changed or eliminated, the Office of Postsecondary Readiness, CTE Executive Director and BMCC faculty liaison will work to revise the curricula to meet any new requirements for earning prior learning credit. F. Graduates that complete the requirements outlined in this MOU prior to any changes, will be grandfathered in and able to receive the prior learning credits in Foundations of Digital Graphic Design (MMA 100) and Introduction to Video Technology (VAT 100).
