Advice and Guidance. In addition to the range of information on the SHE webpages, the following is provided: • a telephone helpline is available 09.00-16.30 Monday-Friday and • a dedicated SHE mailbox for requests for advice and information • SHE Advisers can make additional site visits if required. This might be for proactive safety or security purposes or to assist with reactive work such as an accident investigation. We encourage schools to call the team so that solutions can be worked out and implemented in a practicable and realistic manner. The SHE team undertakes the Radiation Protection Officer functions previously discharged by Education. This includes checking compliance with RPA requirements for safe use, storage, recording keeping etc. of sources in schools and usually will be covered at the time of health and safety audits being undertaken. Separate charges apply to the following services: • Fire Risk Assessments (see below). • subscription to the CLEAPSS science service including the Radiation Protection Adviser service (see below). • educational visits training. • managing health and safety in schools training. SHE can provide fire safety advice as a core service and, by separate agreement, conduct fire risk assessments for schools that do not purchase the Property Services’ Platinum or Gold packages. Please use the facility on GCCPlus (the GCC Traded Services on-line buying portal) to request a quote from SHE. SHE will undertake new fire risk assessments with local input when yours is due (recommended every 3 years). Completing a fire risk assessment will involve a full inspection of all buildings and rooms on the site with an appropriate person accompanying the fire risk assessor (e.g. Site Manager). This inspection will be arranged at a mutually convenient time, although it may be beneficial during school holidays when the building is unoccupied.
