Common use of Associate Professor and Professor Clause in Contracts

Associate Professor and Professor. An appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor may be with tenure or may be subject to a probationary period. (1) If the appointment is with tenure, an Associate Professor or Professor shall be offered a contract for one academic year and must be offered subsequent one-year contracts subject to dismissal only as specified in Article 8 of this Agreement. (2) If the appointment is without tenure, the Associate Professor or Professor without prior full-time college teaching experience shall be offered a contract for one academic year and may be offered not more than four subsequent one-year contracts unless tenure is granted, subject to termination procedures as specified in this Agreement. A contract for a fifth year without tenure shall be accompanied by notice of termination. (3) If the appointment is without tenure, the Associate Professor or Professor with one or more years of prior full-time college teaching experience shall be offered a contract for one academic year and may be offered not more than three subsequent one-year contracts unless tenure is granted, subject to termination procedures as specified in this Agreement. A contract for a fourth year without tenure shall be accompanied by notice of termination.
