Authorized Leave Without Pay. (a) It is the expectation of the City that employees will be judicious in their use of paid leave and that the need for an authorized leave without pay will be a rare occurrence. In the event of the exhaustion of vacation, holiday, sick and compensatory leave time, the department director may authorize leave without pay due to unavoidable absence from work. (b) In instances where the work will not be seriously disrupted by the temporary absence of an employee, a department director may grant a leave of absence without pay not to exceed ninety (90) calendar days in a calendar year. Leaves of absence without pay for periods in excess of ninety (90) days must be approved by the Human Resources Director. Requests for such leave must be in writing and must establish reasonable justification for approval of the request. Such leave will not be approved for an employee who is accepting employment outside the City service.
