Common use of Authorized Use of Sick Leave Clause in Contracts

Authorized Use of Sick Leave. Sick leave with pay can be granted only upon approval of the City Manager or Fire Chief, or designee, in the case of a bona-fide illness of an employee or a member of their immediate family or for the purpose of maternity as limited in paragraph (H) of this section. Family sick leave may be granted upon receipt of proof of death of a relative of the employee’s family defined as a husband, wife, parents, grandparents, brother, sister, child, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, or corresponding relation by affinity. Family sick leave shall be limited to a maximum of one hundred forty four (144) hours per year; no more than ninety-six (96) hours at a time, except that in the case of the death or serious illness of any of the relatives of the employee’s family defined above, the City Manager may approve additional sick leave at his/her discretion up to the limits then accrued in an individual instance. Regular and family sick leave shall be charged on an hour per hour basis from sick leave accrued for each one (1) hour taken.
