Common use of Certification and Recertification Clause in Contracts

Certification and Recertification. To provide an opportunity for a nurse to advance her professional nursing practice, the Hospital agrees to reimburse the nurse for fees associated with one (1) professional certification examination. The certification exam must be in a practice area relevant to Meriter Hospital and certification must be obtained. The nurse is required to submit copies of the certification, including the length of the certification period, to the Nursing Education and Human Resources Development Departments. Upon documented successful certification, the nurse will be reimbursed for the examination fee. (See Section 4 A) At the time of successful certification or recertification the nurse will be provided up to a maximum of $450.00 to be used to support expenses related to recertification initiatives including, but not limited to, continuing education and membership in the respective professional certifying organization. This provision will be available throughout the duration of the certification period. If the entire $450.00 maximum has not been utilized during the certification period the balance will not be carried over into the next certification period. Certifications eligible for this benefit are listed in Appendix G. Other professional certifying organizations may be added at the request of an employee and upon approval of management. Such approval will not be unreasonably denied. This benefit provided for certification and recertification does not impact unit specific allocated education funds described in Section 3. Any expense documentation not received by Human Resources within six (6) months of the successful completion of the initial certification or recertification date will not be reimbursed.
