In practice, this clause may specify minimum activity levels, set timeframes for allowable pauses, or define what constitutes a lapse in production, such as a well not producing oil or gas for a certain period. Its core function is to prevent parties from holding rights or assets without actively utilizing them, thereby ensuring resources are efficiently developed and not left idle.
