Employee and Immediate Supervisor. If an employee has a grievance, the employee and/or Union representative must first present the grievance in writing to the employee’s immediate supervisor within fourteen (14) calendar days from the date the employee knew or should reasonably have known that an alleged breach of this Agreement had occurred; however, as a matter of right, the employee or the Union may submit a written request within this fourteen (14) day period for an extension of time of seven (7) days in which to submit said written grievance, identifying the circumstances and nature of the potential dispute under investigation by the Union. A request for such an extension under these specific terms shall not be denied. The grievance shall state the contractual articles violated and the relief sought. The immediate supervisor or designee shall respond in writing to the employee within fourteen (14) calendar days following receipt of the written grievance or within 14 days of a Step 1 meeting if such a meeting is scheduled. If the immediate supervisor is the employee’s department director, then the employee’s next step in this process is Step 3.
