Extended Shifts. (a) Extended shifts is defined as the consecutive hours worked in excess of the Employee’s normal work day where prior to the end of the shift the Employee is notified accordingly. An extended shift is not a call-out. (b) When an extended shift is needed for an individual or crew, the Company will be obligated to furnish a hot meal after the first hour of the extended period. Exceptions to this may be agreed to on a local basis, but in no case would the cost exceed the above stipulated benefit. (c) The parties to this Agreement recognize that from time to time extension of shifts will be required because of the nature of the work involved. However, the Company pledges that there will not be a flagrant abuse of shift extensions and further, when they are required, such extensions should be divided equitably among the Employees if possible. The work schedules lend themselves to this application. (d) Shift extensions as they apply to such maintenance Employees and electricians working the day shift shall not exceed one (1) hour in accordance with present practice.
