Growing Practices. Aylmer Backyard Farms will use only organic growing practices. The landowners agree that the use of any chemicals or non-organically certified and approved pesticides or herbicides in the plot and on their property that contains the plot is prohibited, and that doing so would compromise its overall organic nature and would be considered a violation of this land use agreement. Most work will be completed with simple (and quiet) hand tools. Aylmer Backyard Farms will communicate with the landowner in the event heavier equipment will be needed.
Growing Practices. Produce is grown without using specific conventional pesticides, fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation. Practices include, crop rotation, fallowing, composting, drip irrigation, organic biodegradable mulch, reusable weed fabric, high tunnel greenhouse, frost covers, low tunnels, and undisturbed natural pollinator habitat areas. Churutabis Farm eggs are from pasture-raised laying hens receiving Transitional Organic feed, where the farmers pledge to follow Organic Standards but have chosen not to pursue certification or are in a transition period of 3 yrs before they can be legally certified. There is no medicated feed or antibiotics used. The hens are free to eat grass, weeds, insects, and worms. They receive sunshine and protection from the elements and are able to scratch, take dust baths, and roost on poles at night.
