Host University. The University of Rhode Island (hereinafter called Host University) is one of the nation's premier academic institutions for the study of coastal ecosystems and associated watersheds. There are more than 200 faculty and 40 departments and programs that work in the field of marine, coastal, and environmental research, teaching, or service. The University of Rhode Island hosts a mixture of University programs, federal cooperative partnerships, and major federal laboratories that contribute to a diverse and enriched community all focused on coastal zone ecosystems.
