Input from Members in the Candidate’s Home Department Clause Samples

The "Input from Members in the Candidate’s Home Department" clause establishes a process for soliciting feedback or evaluations from colleagues within the candidate’s primary academic or professional department. Typically, this involves requesting written comments, assessments, or recommendations from department members who are familiar with the candidate’s work, teaching, or contributions. This clause ensures that decisions regarding the candidate—such as hiring, promotion, or tenure—are informed by those who have direct knowledge of their performance, thereby promoting fairness and thoroughness in the evaluation process.
Input from Members in the Candidate’s Home Department. The Chair of the Committee shall invite all members of the candidate’s Department(s) to comment on the candidate’s suitability for reappointment, tenure/permanency, or promotion. In making this invitation, the Chair shall make available the non-confidential parts of the candidate’s file. Confidential materials include any anonymous surveys of students, and any letters by students or faculty written with the expectation of confidentiality. Colleagues shall be given at least ten (10) working days to submit their comments. Such written views from colleagues will be added to the candidate’s file.
