JOB CLASSIFICATIONS. The Board of Education shall retain the sole discretion in determining job classifications and duties of the work force. In the event a new job classification is established or the content of an existing job classification is substantially changed, the Board of Education shall advise the Union and shall indicate to the Union the wage rate proposed for the new or changed job classification. Such notice will be given to the Union President and the Union Vice-President. Unless the Union requests to negotiate a different rate within ten (10) days after receipt of such notice, the proposed rate shall be maintained for the duration of this Agreement. If the Union requests to negotiate a different rate, the parties will meet at the earliest mutually convenient time for such purposes. The Board of Education may fill a new job classification at the proposed rate until such time as the Board of Education and the Union mutually agree on some other rate. If a new rate is negotiated which is higher than the rate initially proposed by the Board of Education, the new rate will be paid retroactively from the date the new or modified classification was filled.
