Layoffs shall be done in reverse order of seniority by classification; that is, the general principle shall prevail that an employee with the least seniority in the affected classification shall be laid off first and an employee with the most seniority in the affected classification laid off last. a. It is understood that if a red circled employee’s rate of pay is higher than the classification they are bumping into they will continue to be paid at the higher rate of pay. f. The parties recognize the importance of retaining union representation within the facility. In the event of a reduction of the workforce the chief ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ shall be deemed to have the most seniority within the bargaining unit during a layoff provided they can perform the jobs available during such layoff.

If hand delivered, such notice shall be given at least fourteen (14) calendar days before layoff and the day of hand delivery shall be the first day of the fourteen (14) day period. If mailed, such notice shall be given seventeen (17) calendar days before layoff and the day of posting shall be the first day of the seventeen (17) day period. 3) In the event a layoff occurs, the affected employee(s) may bump employees in an equal or lower paying classification within the bargaining unit who have less overall seniority provided that the remaining employees are qualified, able and willing to do bumping employee has previously held the remaining work. c. The bumping employee must already possess the necessary skills, qualifications, abilities and competence to perform the work available without training other than a familiarization period of no longer than ten (1O) working days. In the event of a permanent layoff, as defined in the Employment Standards Act, all employees to be laid off will be given at least sixty (60) days notice of lay-off. Laid off employees must exercise their bumping rights as soon as possible but in any event within ten (1 O) working days from the date they are notified of the workforce the chief ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ layoff. The employee shall list all of their choices on the bump form and submitting a current resume and any other relevant information with their choices, by the end of the tenth ( day. Employees shall emphasize any education, experience and skills they have which relate to the duties and requirements of their bump choices. The employee may have union representation throughout the most seniority process outlined in The Region will consider the employee's bump choices individually, in the order of preference and determine whether or not the choice is successful, within ten (10) working days of receiving the bargaining unit during a layoff provided they can perform bump form, before considering the jobs available during such layoffnext choice, and so on, until all of the employee's choices have been considered, or the employee is successful with bumping into one of their preferred choices.
