Layoff in Lieu of Bumping Clause Samples

The "Layoff in Lieu of Bumping" clause establishes that an employer may lay off an employee directly instead of following the usual bumping process, where employees with more seniority displace less senior employees during workforce reductions. In practice, this means that rather than allowing a more senior employee to take the position of a junior employee (who would then be laid off), the employer can choose to lay off the senior employee without initiating the bumping chain. This clause streamlines the layoff process, reducing disruption and administrative complexity, and provides clarity on how layoffs will be managed in situations where bumping rights would otherwise apply.
