Abandonment of Position. An employee who fails to report for duty for three consecutive working days without informing the Employer of the reason for their absence will be presumed to have abandoned their position. An employee will be afforded the opportunity within 10 days to rebut such presumption and demonstrate that there were reasonable grounds for not informing the Employer.

A worker may request reinstatement from such a resignation. If the District has given the worker written notice of the automatic resignation, any request for reinstatement must be filed with the Director of Human Resources within 15 days of this notice. Reinstatement may be granted only if the worker makes a satisfactory explanation of the cause of her/his absence and for failure to notify her/his supervisor. Reinstatement will be determined by the supervising manager in consultation with the Director of Human Resources or his/her designee.

(a) When prior approval cannot be obtained by the EMPLOYEE due to such emergencies, the administrator shall:
(i) Place the EMPLOYEE on leave with pay, provided the EMPLOYEE has sufficient leave accrued to cover the absence, or
(ii) Place the EMPLOYEE on leave without pay for the absence.
(iii) If the absence is for five (5) consecutive workdays, the building administrator may consider the EMPLOYEE to have abandoned the position and resigned from the School District.
(b) If an EMPLOYEE's request for leave of absence is disapproved and the EMPLOYEE takes unauthorized leave, the administrator shall place the EMPLOYEE on leave without pay and after an absence of five (5) consecutive workdays shall consider the EMPLOYEE to have abandoned the position and resigned from the School District.
