Common use of Leave for Union Activity Clause in Contracts

Leave for Union Activity. (a) An employee who wishes to accept a full-time position with the Union may apply for an unpaid personal leave under the terms of this Article. No more than one bargaining unit member will be eligible for such a leave at any one time. (b) If notice is given prior to posting the schedule, up to three employees will be granted an unpaid leave of up to two weeks from work for the purposes of engaging in Union business, including but not limited to Union Conventions, meetings, conferences, and other activities, patient care permitting and these requests shall not be unreasonably denied. If, subsequent to the posting of the schedule, an employee can themselves find others to cover their shifts for up to the same two week period which does not incur an overtime obligation, the employee shall be granted the leave. The employee shall not suffer any loss of seniority or other benefits as a result of such leave. This shall not be read to prohibit additional employees using PTO in accordance with PTO procedures to engage in Union activity.
