Leave of Absence for Full-Time Union or Public Duties. a) The Employer recognizes the right of an employee to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Employer shall allow leave of absence without pay but with no loss of benefits so that the employee may be a candidate in federal, provincial, or municipal elections. b) An employee who is elected to public office shall be allowed leave of absence without pay or benefits during her terms of office. Seniority shall not accumulate during such leave. c) An employee who is elected or selected for a position with the Union, or anybody with which the Union is affiliated, shall be granted leave of absence without pay or benefits for a period of one (1) year. Seniority shall continue to accumulate for a period of one (1) year only. Such leave shall be renewed each year, on request, during her term of office.
