Common use of Method of Destruction Clause in Contracts

Method of Destruction. Contractor must destroy all originals and copies by (i) cross-cut shredding paper, film, or other hard copy media so that the Information cannot be read or otherwise reconstructed; and (ii) purging, or destroying electronic media containing County Information consistent with NIST Special Publication 800-88, “Guidelines for Media Sanitization” such that the County Information cannot be retrieved. Contractor will provide an attestation on company letterhead and certified documentation from a media destruction firm, detailing the destruction method used and the County Information involved, the date of destruction, and the company or individual who performed the destruction. Such statement will be sent to the designated County contract manager within ten (10) days of termination or expiration of the Contract or at any time upon the County’s request. On termination or expiration of this Contract, the County will return or destroy all Contractor’s Information marked as confidential (excluding items licensed to the County hereunder, or that provided to the County by Contractor hereunder), at the County’s option.
