Number of Coaches. Should a head coach/advisor believe, due to the number of athletes/participants in a program or sport an additional coach or advisor should be added, the coach/advisor shall petition the Director of Athletics. Additional coaches/advisors will be considered on a case-by-case basis with particular attention paid to the numbers of athletes/participants per coach/advisor and safety concerns. If the District determines to add staff, such staff would normally be designated as assistants.

For Special Olympics of Washington (SOWA) basketball league, when the number of student athletes exceeds 22, coach/advisor shall petition the Director of Athletics request an additional coach under this provision. Number of Coaches. Section 1 Participants to Extracurricular Activity Sport/Activity Base Number of Staff Number of Teams a) High School Football – 1 coach per 10 players over 90, cap at 12coaches b) High School Track – 1 coach per 20 players over 100 c) Boys & Girls High School Cross Country – 1 coach per 15 players over 10 d) High School Bowling – 1 coach per 15 players of 10 e) Middle School Track – add 1 coach per boys and 1 coach per girls and 1 coach per 20 players of 100 f) Adding coaches in all other sports at the discretion of the district in relationship with each building. Numbers labeled in the changes to Article VI number of coaches to be used as a reference In the event that student participation declines, staffing may be reduced as teams are eliminated based on language: years of service, experience and evaluation. Coach’s salaries will be prorated from day one of the season to the day the team is eliminated. If the team is eliminated half way through the season or beyond the coach would be paid in full. In the event that student participation increases substantially, which may affect the safety of student athletes, the District and the Association will meet to discuss adding staff. If new staff is added after the start of the season their contract will be prorated to reflect the time covered. The Association and the District will meet to mutually agree on staffing levels for any new sports/activity added during the length of this agreement.

Number of Coaches. The District will hire coaches for each activity in accordance with the appendices. The determination of the actual number of coaches required for each season will be made at the end of the fifth (5th) day of regular practice. As soon as possible, the athletic director will hire needed coaches and terminate any excess coaches. If a significant overload occurs, which is not remedied by the appendices, the Association and the District may confer to find a suitable solution.
