Common use of Service Allowance Clause in Contracts

Service Allowance. 22.1 The Company recognises the value and loyalty of long term Employees. Where an Employee achieves service with the Company as specified in this Agreement, then the following allowances will be paid accordingly: • Employees with 5-7 continuous years of service as a tradesperson or labourer- $40.00 per week in addition to the rate applicable in Appendix A; • Employees with 7-10 continuous years of service as a tradesperson or labourer- $45.00 per week in addition to the rate applicable in Appendix A; • Employees with 10+ continuous years of service as a tradesperson or labourer - $50.00 per week in addition to the rate applicable in Appendix A. Note: These amounts are specified as gross costs to the Company and are inclusive of the $30.00 paid as a redundancy provision under Clause 21. 22.2 The Employee has the choice of contributing the allowance to ACIRT, C+BUS or taking it as cash payment. This benefit meets the Company’s entire liability for redundancy payments. 22.3 Where an Employee opts to take the allowance as a cash payment the gross cash amount to be paid to the Employee will be net of any Superannuation Guarantee Levy (SGL) amount payable. The Employee will be paid the net amount; the balance will be paid into C+BUS. The combined amount will be equal to the applicable Service Allowance. 22.4 Where an Employee opts to take the allowance as an additional contribution to ACIRT the amount contributed will be net of any FBT amount that may be payable on the allowance. 22.5 An Employee who qualifies for the Service Allowance must advise the Company of their preferred option for disbursement of the allowance within two weeks of their qualification. An Employee may change their election regarding the payment of this allowance from time to time, however the frequency should not be greater than once in any twelve month period. 22.6 A former Employee who rejoins the Company shall recommence accumulating their years of service towards qualification towards the Service Allowance from the date of recommencement. 22.7 In recognition that the time spent during an apprenticeship does not count towards qualification for the Service Allowance, but in recognising the importance of Employee loyalty and the retention of skilled tradespeople, the Company will pay a once-only bonus payment of $2,500.00 to an apprentice who, having achieved their trade qualification goes on to complete a total of 5 years of post apprenticeship service with the Company. This 5 years service may be broken once for a maximum period of 12 months, thereby providing junior tradespeople with the flexibility to pursue interests outside the business (i.e. working holidays, etc). This provision applies only to those Employees who, at 1 February 2008 or later, were enrolled into an apprenticeship.
