Standby Allowance. 22.1 Employees who are required to be available for emergency and/or breakdown work at any time and are required to remain in communication must be paid standby allowance. These employees are termed "approved employees". 22.2 Standby work includes: (a) restoring continuity of supply (b) returning to safe and proper operating condition any plant or equipment that has broken down in service, or is likely to break down (c) carrying out urgent maintenance work that if not carried out an interruption to supply may occur. 22.3 Standby work does not include: (a) overtime that was arranged before an employee's ordinary finishing time; and/or (b) work which does not involve an emergency or breakdown situation. 22.4 Standby allowance is $114.40 per week. The allowance becomes $118.40 from the first pay period on or after 11 March 2010. 22.5 Approved" day workers who are called out and required to work overtime must be paid in accordance with clause 11, Overtime. They must receive a minimum payment of one hour at double time. 22.6 Approved" shift workers who are notified after leaving work must be paid in accordance with the said clause 11, if the overtime commences: (a) two hours or more before their ordinary commencing time: (i) double time when the overtime merges with their ordinary commencing time (ii) double time, with a minimum of three hours at single time, when the overtime does not merge with their ordinary commencing time. (b) less than two hours before their ordinary commencing time, the appropriate rate provided for in the said clause11. Additionally, in the case of non-merging overtime, the appropriate rate in the said clause 11 applies from the time of commencing overtime to the time Public Holidays Standby Availability 22.7 Employees required to be on standby, in accordance with the provisions of this clause, on a public holiday shall have a day added to their accrued annual leave entitlement. 22.8 Employees standing by: (a) must not be required to be constantly available beyond a period of four weeks if other employees are available for these duties; and (b) must have at least one weekend, comprising two consecutive days, off duty in each four weeks, without reduction in standby allowance if other employees are not available.

Standby Allowance. 22.1 Employees who Standby will apply where policing effectiveness requires employees are required contactable and able to return to work to create certainty of availability outside normal work hours. Standby allowance only applies to positions where the employee has been authorised in writing by the District Commander to be available on standby. This allowance (rates below) recognises that for emergency and/or breakdown work off-duty employees, being on standby places restrictions on recreation and personal life significantly in excess of the obligations of other employees. Off-duty employees not formally placed on standby are not obliged to maintain a constant “readiness” to return to duty at very short notice as if on standby. If standby is a regular feature of a position it should be on a roster to ensure duties do not place excessive demands on any time one individual. Employees subject to standby duty shall be regularly assessed to ensure they receive adequate rest and recuperation time. It is not the intention of Police to place such demands on staff on a long term basis, or in the absence of specific operation requirements. Standby requirements are required not intended to remain apply in communication must situations where it is convenient, but not essential that the employee be paid standby available. Excessive use of Standby constitutes a health and safety risk to employees. The fact that an employee might occasionally be called out during off duty hours is not, of itself, a ground for payment of the allowance. These employees are termed "approved employees".

22.7 Employees required to be on standby, in accordance with the provisions of this clause, on a public holiday shall have a day added to their accrued annual leave entitlement.
22.8 Employees standing by:
(a) must not be required to be constantly available beyond standby for a period of four weeks if other employees are available for these duties; and

The arrangement shall be revisited by the parties to assess the appropriateness of this approach for the future.

(b) work which does not involve an emergency or breakdown situation.
22.4 Standby allowance is $114.40 per week. The allowance becomes $118.40 from rate specified in clause 27 on the first pay period on or after 11 March 2010.
22.5 Approved" day workers who occasion they are called out to work while on standby, and then for actual time worked (with no minimum payment obligation) for any further work they are called out to perform while on standby.
(f) A casual employee on standby who is called out to work while on standby will be paid a minimum of four (4) hours' pay at the appropriate overtime rate specified in clause 27 on the first occasion they are called out to work while on standby, and then for actual time worked (with no minimum payment obligation) for any further work they are called out to perform while on standby.
(g) InvoCare may elect to allow an employee to take home an InvoCare vehicle for the purposes of any standby duty. In these circumstances, the InvoCare vehicle may only be used for business purposes.
(h) Clauses 20.1 (i) to (o) apply to an employee on standby to perform the role of an Arranger Conductor.
(i) An employee is required to work overtime must respond to matters which may include making phone calls while on standby and will be paid as per below.
(j) A full-time or part-time employee on standby will be paid a minimum for two (2) hours' pay at the appropriate overtime rate specified in clause 22.
(k) A casual employee on standby will be paid a minimum of four (4) hours' pay at the appropriate overtime rate specified in clause 22.
(l) An employee who is required to attend a work location while on standby to perform an arrangement will be paid from the time the employee leaves home to the time the employee returns home.
(m) A full-time or part-time employee on standby who is required to attend a work location while on standby to perform an arrangement will be paid for actual time worked (with no minimum payment obligation) as they will have already received a two hour minimum in accordance with clause 11, Overtime. They must receive 20.1 (j).
(n) A casual employee on standby who is required to attend a work location while on standby to perform an arrangement will be paid for actual time worked (with no minimum payment of one obligation) as they will have already received a four hour at double time.
22.6 Approved" shift workers who are notified after leaving work must be paid minimum in accordance with the said clause 11, if the overtime commences:
20.1 (a) two hours or more before their ordinary commencing time:
(i) double time when the overtime merges with their ordinary commencing time
(ii) double time, with a minimum of three hours at single time, when the overtime does not merge with their ordinary commencing timek).
