TEACHING CONDITIONS AND HOURS.
A. CLASS SIZE COMMITTEE
1. A joint class size committee shall be established within four (4) weeks after the execution date of this Agreement. The committee shall consist of two (2) representatives appointed by the Employer and two (2) representatives appointed by the Association.
2. Alternates or replacements of committee members shall be the sole prerogative of the party involved. No decision of the committee shall be binding if one or more of the committee members is not present when the decision is made. Further, the committee is authorized to hear and investigate complaints regarding class size and make recommendations to the Superintendent regarding such complaints.
3. The committee shall have authority to recommend to the Superintendent specific changes to be made to accomplish its objectives. The Superintendent shall implement the recommendations in each case as soon as possible.
4. In the event that a majority vote on a decision of the committee is not forthcoming within ten (10) days after the consideration of the issue, the Association may have the matter submitted to an arbitrator selected by the parties as set forth in Article V, Section H-Arbitration, of this Agreement. The arbitration will be conducted in accordance with Article V, Section H, of this Agreement.
5. The Employer will furnish all relevant information requested by the committee.
6. The Employer agrees to maintain the average statewide class size ratio of 26.15 to 1.
7. For position allocation purposes, special education students, with the exception of those in self-contained classes, shall be counted as both regular students and special education students.
8. For position allocation purposes, special education students in integrated self- contained classes shall be counted as one-half of regular students and as full count of special education students.
B. LESSON PLANS Teachers responsible for the instruction of students shall prepare legibly written or typewritten lesson plans, the form and content of which will remain discretionary with the teacher. Lesson plans will be made available to the principal upon request. There will be no requirement of a regular and periodic submission of lesson plans. A teacher absent five (5) days or less shall make lesson plans available to the substitute(s). Such plans shall contain basic information with which the substitute(s) can conduct the class(es). TEACHING CONDITIONS AND HOURS. Provisions of the Agreement, Article VI, Section C – Work Time, are modified by this Site- Based Agreement to provide for expanded learning time and professional learning community days.
TEACHING CONDITIONS AND HOURS. 5.1 Each department at the secondary level and each department and/or grade group at the elementary level shall submit to the building principal a priority list of basic materials required in a teacher's daily responsibilities on a form provided by the principal. The list shall contain costs, distributor's names and addresses, and other pertinent catalog information. These priority items will be purchased by the building principal insofar as funds are provided in the school budget.
5.2 The teacher work day shall be seven (7) hours thirty (30) minutes. All teachers shall have a lunch period consisting of a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes. It is understood that a shortened student day may result in a shortened lunch period. Lunch duty assignments will be determined by asking for volunteers who will receive compensatory time or a supplement in accordance with Appendix B. If additional lunch duty assignments are needed, teachers assigned such duty shall be provided with the choice of a supplement in accordance with Appendix B or compensatory time. Teacher’s not assigned lunch duty will be provided a twenty-five (25) minute duty-free lunch period. The use of compensatory time shall be arranged mutually between the teacher and the principal. Teachers who perform lunch duty may choose a combination of compensatory time and the supplement. Teachers who are assigned such duty may choose once at the beginning of each semester a combination of compensatory time and the supplement.
5.3 Classroom elementary teachers will have a relief period of not less than ten (10) minutes during the student day. The time of the relief period will coincide with the student break/recess period. Classroom teachers shall be required to supervise during this time only if adequate support personnel are not available. Such teacher supervision shall be on a rotating basis and shall be developed by a committee of teachers appointed by the principal. The principal must approve the plan of supervision. If teachers are required to supervise students during this period, they shall earn compensatory time in accordance with article 5.
TEACHING CONDITIONS AND HOURS. A. Regular building hours for employees shall be seven and one-half (7 1/2) hours per day including a thirty (30) minute duty free lunch period. The starting and dismissal times, which may vary from school to school, shall be determined by the Board.
B. Employees shall spend time outside of building hours to the extent necessary for adequate preparation for instruction and for pupil and parent consultations.
C. In accordance with RCW 28A.150.203, "Teacher planning period" means a period of a school day as determined by the administration and board of the directors of the district that may be used by teachers for instruction-related activities including but not limited to preparing instructional materials; reviewing student performance; recording student data; consulting with other teachers, instructional assistants, mentors, instructional coaches, administrators, and parents; or participating in professional development.
