TEACHING HOURS AND LOAD. A. The Teacher's normal teaching hours in the school shall be as follows: 1. The school day shall be the times listed on the calendar and including fifteen (15) minutes prior to the beginning of classes and ten (10) minutes after class. In the time prior to and after classes Teachers shall make themselves available to parents, administration, and/or be performing such duties that would insure the continued operation of their assigned areas of responsibilities. Staff meeting may be held once or twice per month. Staff meetings are to begin ten (10) minutes after the ending of the school day. Meetings not to be extended one hour past student dismissal. The total amount of minutes for staff meetings will not exceed sixty (60) minutes per month. 2. Teachers shall be on duty and in their room prior to the arrival of students in the morning and each subsequent class period. B. Teachers shall be entitled to a duty-free thirty (30) minute lunch period. C. Teachers of grades kindergarten through six shall be guaranteed daily one (1) thirty (30) continuous minutes of duty-free recesses. This recess will be in the afternoon (p.m.) if at all possible. D. Elementary Teachers shall use those times during which classes are receiving instruction from special area Teachers as planning time. E. Teachers upon request, may be allowed to leave early at the discretion of the building principal. F. Teachers shall be excused from contracted duties after buses depart on Homecoming and last duty day prior to a vacation period, and when students are released due to inclement weather. Secondary teachers will stay ten (10) minutes after busses leave on Friday. When a shortened student day is scheduled, Teachers will be expected to work a regular day. G. Each secondary Teacher shall be guaranteed not less than two hundred twenty-five (225) conference period minutes per week. Each elementary Teacher shall be guaranteed not less than two hundred forty (240) conference period minutes per week. Elementary Teacher preparation time may include recess and extended noon hour. The general purpose of this conference period is to prepare for classes, confer with parents and students, and to conduct such matters that might pertain to the performance of each Teacher's duties. H. Each elementary Teacher shall inform the elementary office for classroom coverage if personal break time is needed during the morning session.

Teachers shall indicate their presence for duty by setting forth the time of arrival in the appropriate column of the faculty “sign-in” sheet in the specific areas. 2. Teachers shall sign in no later than 7:55 a.m., and shall be at their assigned station no later than 8:00 a.m. 3. Any teacher who arrives to work late shall affix his/her signature and the time of his/her arrival in the designated “late” book in the principal’s office. 4. Teachers may leave ten (10) minutes after close of pupil’s school day. B. Class Dismissal Procedures 1. When any emergency closing of school for students is declared during the course of a regular scheduled school day, the school administration shall announce when teachers may leave the building. Such announcement will be made in a manner most likely to reach all staff. 2. Departure time for teachers shall be reasonably related to the students’ departure. Student departure shall be defined as leaving the school grounds. No staff member shall be permitted to leave the building until officially dismissed. 3. Teachers shall be permitted to leave ten (10) minutes after close of the pupils’ school day. However, emergency closings shall be governed by clauses (1) and (2) hereby.

TEACHING HOURS AND LOAD. 7.1 Teachers shall not be required to report for duty earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the opening of the pupils' day and shall be permitted to leave not later than thirty (30) minutes after the close of the pupils' school day in each building. The teachers’ workday shall be as follows except as noted in Article 7.5. High School: 7 hours, 30 minutes/Elementary: 7 hours, 15 minutes. 7.2 Teachers shall have a duty-free lunch period equal to the students' lunch period; but in NO instance shall a teacher's duty-free lunch period be less than thirty (30) minutes. 7.3 Prep time is defined as that time during the regular workday, excluding lunch, when the certificated staff member is not assigned pupils for instruction in a class, and she/he is not assigned a duty (i.e. lunch duty, hall duty, playground duty, homeroom, etc). All teachers shall receive 200 minutes preparation time per five (5) full day week. For each full length day, the prep period will consist of forty (40) continuous minutes. Preparation time shall continue to be used for supervisor-teacher meetings, parent-teacher meetings, and teacher committee meetings as well as other uses to which prep time has been devoted. Any questions regarding the appropriate use of prep time shall be determined by the Superintendent of Schools in her/his sole discretion.
TEACHING HOURS AND LOAD. A. Teacher Attendance 1. Due to weather related circumstances teacher attendance shall not be required whenever students’ attendance is not required unless this attendance shall be to fulfill a teacher’s yearly contract. 2. Each teacher shall be provided at least a thirty (30) minute duty free lunch period. 3. The teaching day shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours and thirty (30) minutes excluding bus duty. This includes thirty (30) minute duty free lunch and thirty (30) minutes recognized by the state to accumulate to thirteen (13) additional days during the year to be used pursuant to TCA 49-6-3004 (e)(1). 4. Bus duty shall begin no more than thirty (30) minutes prior to the beginning of seven and half (7 ½) hour workday and shall last no more than forty-five (45) minutes past the end of the seven and half (7 ½) hour workday. Principals and/or assistant principals shall be present during these times. No car riding students shall be brought in and left before bus duty begins each morning nor shall be left longer in the afternoon than bus duty extends. Any teacher who is on bus duty shall have access to a telephone. Each school shall develop its own rotating bus duty schedule. Rotation of assignment shall be made in a fair and equitable manner. TEACHING HOURS AND LOAD. A. The school year shall consist of 181 days. One day shall be for the purpose of parent conferences, which will be scheduled for 6.75 hours, include a one hour dinner break, and conclude no later than 9:00 PM. Every effort will be made to hold parent conferences within one week following the distribution of report cards. In addition, there shall be 16.5 hours of Professional Development Committee approved professional development (PD). All teachers shall participate in 5.5 hours of district sponsored PD on the day before the first day for students which shall include a one hour faculty orientation meeting. In addition, all teachers shall participate in district sponsored PD as follows: On the day of high school and middle school parent conferences, elementary teachers shall participate in 5.5 hours of PD. On the day of elementary school parent conferences, high school and middle school teachers shall participate in 5.5 hours of PD. Teachers shall submit verification of completion of the remaining 5.5 hours of district-approved PD no later than May 15th. Upon verification of completion of 16.5 hours of district-approved professional development activities, teachers will be compensated $250 per

TEACHING HOURS AND LOAD. A. IN-SCHOOL DAY: 1. The in-school day shall consist of the following: a. 2004-2005 School Year: Seven (7) Hours and Ten (10) Minutes b. 2005-2006 School Year: Seven (7) Hours and Fifteen (15) Minutes c. 2006-2007 School Year: Seven (7) Hours and Fifteen (15) Minutes 2. The in-school day for all full time bargaining unit members shall include: a. One duty-free lunch period that is equal in time to that of the students lunch and recess period; b. A minimum of one full and continuous preparation period per in- school day; c. In school arrival time no more than fifteen (15) minutes prior to the opening of the school day will be required; d. End of the day departure time no less than the following after the final student dismissal will be required except for Faculty or Professional Meetings addressed in Paragraph B, Subparagraph [1] of this article:

Teachers’ workday will begin fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled student arrival time and will end fifteen (15) minutes after the scheduled student dismissal time in each building. B. Teacher Work Year The work year of teachers employed on a nine (9) month basis will be determined by the school calendar which will not exceed 184 days. The work year of teachers employed on a ten (10) month basis will not exceed 20 additional work days. The work year of teachers employed on an eleven (11) month basis will not exceed 40 additional work days. The work year of teachers employed on a twelve (12) month basis will not exceed 60 additional work days. The “work year” will include days when pupils are in attendance, conference days, and required teacher meetings and also extend to make up days mandated due to closing for lack of funds, weather, and acts of God. Paid calamity days will be limited to 5 days. Calamity days 6, 7 and 8 will be covered by blizzard bags. Teachers will receive pay for one day’s pay for each day’s lessons plans created. Any teacher who accepts a contract to work beyond the regular work year set forth in Paragraph 1 above will be compensated. A draft of the calendar for each of the school years covered by this Agreement will be presented to the Association President, who will provide for input of the teachers before a final decision is made. C. Faculty Meetings Teachers shall attend without additional compensation faculty or other professional meetings as necessary to fulfill the objectives of this Agreement. Attendance at other functions outside the regular workday will be at the option of the individual teacher. Required activities will be building meetings and in-service(s). Building meetings will be held regularly or as needed. Teachers will be provided advance notice of building meetings, copies of the agenda, and the opportunity to add items to the agenda. Every effort will be made to have additional agenda items submitted a day in advance. D. Lunch Period Teachers will have a daily duty-free lunch period of at least thirty (30) minutes.
