TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. The normal weekly teaching load:
1. Senior and Middle School (6 period day) 25 teaching periods and 5 unassigned preparation periods.
2. Intermediate School (when operated as secondary-level program) (7 period day) 30 teaching periods and 5 unassigned preparation periods. In the event that the Intermediate School is restructured, the Association will be consulted regarding the impact of any resulting changes in working conditions.
TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. The Board has the right to determine class schedules (Article III, Board Rights). The normal teacher load would include one preparation period for each full day equal in time to the teaching period length. The Association would be notified of possible changes in the schedule. B. The Board shall make every effort to equalize teaching loads so that no High School or Middle School teacher shall be required to have more than three (3) preparations. However, when a teacher is assigned more than three (3) preparations the teacher shall be compensated Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars per semester. The exceptions to the above preparations shall be teachers assigned to music, physical education, industrial education, and art. Extra Prep is defined as any course that is listed under a different course name and number, has a different course description, and requires different lesson plans.

TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. Follow the current concepts of the North Central Association for Junior High and Secondary Schools with respect to teaching loads and assignments. In the event of any disagreement between the representative of the Board and the Association as to the need and desirability of any deviation, the matter may be processed through the professional grievance procedure hereinafter set forth.
B. Since students are entitled to be taught by teachers who are working within their area of competence, teachers shall not be assigned, except temporarily and for good cause, outside the scope of their teaching certificates or their major or minor field of study. E. A ten (10) minute period of transition will be provided for teachers traveling between buildings within the City of Negaunee. Consideration will be given to traveling conditions in inclement weather. Time to travel from one building to another shall not be deducted from scheduled preparation time or duty-free lunch period for teachers who serve in more than one building. As in the past, adjustment by compensatory time or pay will be provided for teachers traveling during their lunch or preparation time.
F. Assignment of classes and responsibilities to teachers will be rotated among teachers so that no teacher is continually assigned to classes requiring extra preparation or teaching duties. When staff is assigned to more than one building, special coordination will be used to prevent preparation overload.

E. Since teacher attendance at school functions is of the utmost importance to students, teachers are encouraged to attend functions which they are sponsoring or in which their students are involved.
