Time Off for Union Duties. 4.1 Employees of the Company who are officers or designated representatives of the Union shall, upon reasonable notice to the employee's immediate supervisor, be allowed to take time off without pay up to and including forty (40) scheduled working days per contract year; provided, however, that no more than ten (10) scheduled working days of time off granted under that Section shall run consecutively. 4.1.1 The Company and the Union agree to meet and discuss individual cases where an employee requests to exceed the time limit specified in paragraph 4. 1. The Company agrees to take into consideration any extenuating circumstances presented by the employee before determining whether to grant the request. 4.2 Reasonable notice shall be forty-eight (48) hours. Time off, as described in Paragraph 4.1 herewith, may be granted with less than forty-eight (48) hours notice by the employee's immediate supervisor in case of emergency if the service requirements permit. It is understood and agreed that in those cases where the Union Representative has knowledge of the need to be off in advance of forty-eight (48) hours, it is incumbent upon such Representative to give the immediate supervisor as much advance notice as possible. 4.3 If the Union shall request an extension of time off for Union business, such an extension shall be considered under the terms of Section 3 of this Article. 4.4 Employees will be allowed time off for Union duties on the basis of the total number of employees within the same job title and geographical boundary of the Operations Center or Division. At one time or during any portion of the same period, the following will apply: For Union convention purposes, each year the Union may submit a list of representatives not to exceed one hundred and twenty-five (125) in number per year for whom time off is desired. Such list must be submitted at least ten (10) working days prior to the beginning date of the absence. If service requirements permit, such time off without pay not to exceed three (3) scheduled working days not to include Saturday and Sunday for each employee shall be granted. This time off shall be deducted from the forty (40) days allowable as covered under Section 4, Paragraph 4.1. 4.5 This Section shall not apply to any joint Union-Management meeting.
