Common use of Time Off Provision Clause in Contracts

Time Off Provision. When there is a death in an employee’s immediate family, that employee shall be granted a bereavement leave of a maximum of forty (40) hours per occurrence. Bereavement leave will not be charged against sick leave, vacation or holiday time. If the employee needs additional time off due to the death of the immediate family member, the employee may request such additional time off, using accrued vacation leave. Approval of such request for time off shall be at the sole and exclusive discretion of the Department Director or designee. Although bereavement leave is normally consecutive days off, the parties recognize that due to cultural or other circumstances, the time off may not be consecutive days. Non- consecutive days may be granted based on individual need, but it shall not exceed more than forty (40) hours per occurrence and must be taken within six (6) months of the qualifying death.
