Common use of Training and Certifications Clause in Contracts

Training and Certifications. Paid time off from regular work assignments may be permitted for Office mandated programs and work related activities such as attendance at conferences, institutes, seminars and workshops, provided the budget and manpower are such that prior approval can be given by the Office. The Office will make every reasonable effort to disseminate information about such activities as soon as it is available. Employees desiring information and scheduling considerations to permit their attendance at the above mentioned work related activities should direct their inquiries to the supervisor. Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses are required to collect twenty-four hours of approved continuing educational units every two years as a prerequisite for obtaining renewal of (the nursing) license. Nurses need to collect 12 hours annually. In studying present costs for educational requirements it was found that the going rate per workshop is approximately $40.00 or $80.00 per nurse per year for 12 hours. The annual cost for the thirteen nurses would be approximately $800. All bargaining unit members are eligible for these reimbursements. If approved, upon submission of voucher, course expenses will be paid by the Office. Nothing in this Article prohibits Management from determining which individual(s) shall receive or participate in training programs. Opportunities for participation in such programs shall be made equally available to all employees to whom said programs relate.
