Transitional Work. Any member who has suffered an off‐duty injury or medical condition that prohibits them from performing their regular duties as a fire fighter will have the right to request transitional work. Any voluntary request for transitional work will be subject to the following conditions: 1. Placement in a transitional work assignment will be within the employee’s restrictions, as identified in writing by the employee’s physician. 2. The member must request transitional work from the Chief or his designee, who will submit the request and a recommendation to the Transitional Work Committee. 3. The time frame for any transitional work assignment will be ninety (90) days from the date of approval, with an option to renew the assignment for an additional ninety (90) days. 4. Work assignments while on transitional work shall be within the Fire Department. 5. Daily duty records shall reflect the transitional work assignment. The member will be considered in an active‐pay status for the purpose of contractual pay increases. 6. Priority for transitional work assignments will be given to work‐related injuries or medical conditions first, and then non‐work related injuries or medical conditions. 7. No member shall be required to accept a transitional work assignment. 8. Upon return to full‐duty status, the member will return to the shift and station assignment to which the member was assigned prior to the transitional work assignment.
