Unit Weekend Schedule. A unit weekend schedule may be developed in order to meet the Hospital’s need for weekend staff, and individual nurses’ preference for a weekend work schedule. A unit weekend schedule is defined as a schedule in which a full-time nurse works a weekly average of thirty (30) hours and is paid for 37.5 hours at her or his regular straight time hourly rate. The schedule must include two 11.25 hour tours, which fall within a weekend period as determined by the Hospital and the Association. A nurse working a weekend schedule will work every weekend except as provided for in the provisions below. If the Hospital and the Association agree to a unit weekend schedule, the introduction of that schedule and the manner in which the position(s) are filled, shall be determined by the local parties and recorded in the Appendix of Local Provisions. This unit schedule may be discontinued by either party with notice as determined within the Appendix of Local Provisions. The opportunity for an individual nurse to discontinue this schedule shall be resolved by the local parties:
(a) Weekend and shift premiums shall not be paid;
Unit Weekend Schedule. The Hospital and the Association agree to a Unit Weekend Schedule pursuant to Article 13.04 of the Collective Agreement. The following conditions will apply:

i) Unit Weekend Schedules may be introduced in accordance with the procedure outlined in Article D.02.
ii) A Scheduling Sub-Committee of HAC will be struck with the mandate of reviewing the schedules and evaluating the Unit Weekend Schedule trial period.

i) Unit Weekend Schedules may be introduced in accordance with the procedure outlined in Article D.08 (a).
Unit Weekend Schedule. The parties agree to the following:
1. Request for Weekend Worker positions shall be considered on an individual basis where mutually agreed to by the Health Centre and the Union.
2. Prior to implementation, a vote will be conducted (by secret ballot) among the RN’s on the unit as to whether or not they are in favour of the Weekend Worker schedule, 70% of the nurses who vote must be in favour of the Weekend Worker schedule in order for implementation to occur. A sample schedule will be made available to staff prior to voting.
3. Should the vote be in favour of the Weekend Worker schedule, the position will be posted on the unit.
4. The Unit Weekend Worker schedule shall average thirty (30) hours per week and must include two (2) 11.25 hour weekend shifts and one (1) 7.5 hour shift on a day to be mutually determined by the nurse and his/her manager. As per Article 13.04, the Unit Weekend Worker will be paid for 37.5 hours per week. The nurse will rotate between days and nights unless an alternate arrangement is agreeable between the nurse and the manager.
5. Requests for time off and vacation requests will be considered as per the provisions of the Collective Agreement. The Unit Weekend Worker will be considered to be a full-time nurse in this regard.
6. The Health Centre or the Unit Weekend Worker may discontinue the Unit Weekend Schedule arrangement with sixty (60) days’ notice.
7. It is expected that from time to time the weekend worker may need to be scheduled on weekdays to attend in-service programs.
8. This Letter of Understanding is without prejudice or precedent to the rights of the Health Centre or the Union in any other matter and shall not be referred to or relied on in any other matter for any purpose whatsoever.

A unit weekend schedule is defined as a schedule in which a full-time nurse works a weekly average of thirty (30) hours and is paid for 37.5 hours at her or his regular straight time hourly rate. A nurse working a weekend schedule will work every weekend except as provided for in the provisions below. The Employer and the Union may agree to implement a unit weekend schedule if sixty-six and two thirds percent (66⅔%) of the full-time and part-time employees who work in the facility/unit are in agreement. The introduction of that schedule and the manner in which the position(s) are filled, shall be determined by the parties at the time of implementation. This schedule may be discontinued by either party with notice as determined by the parties. The opportunity for an individual employee to discontinue this schedule shall be resolved by the parties. The Hospital must have the majority agreement of the full-time and part-time employees who vote on the issue to agree on a trial period of up to six months. Once the trial period is complete, the Hospital must have a minimum of 66 ⅔% agreement of the full-time and part-time employees who vote on the issue to continue with the new schedule on a permanent basis. Notwithstanding the voting mechanism above, a three (3) month trial period (or longer period, where agreed by the Hospital and the Union) for a weekend worker arrangement may be implemented without a vote in circumstances where the following additional conditions apply: An RN (or RNs) volunteers or applies for a weekend worker position and the Hospital and the Union agrees to accept the request. The work schedule will be modified to accommodate such a request provided there is no reduction in the regularly scheduled hours of the other RNs in the bargaining unit. Prior to the conclusion of the trial period, representatives of the Hospital and of the Union will evaluate and discuss the outcomes.
(a) Weekend and shift premiums shall not be paid;

(b) A current full-time nurse, in order to further her or his education, may apply for weekend work without posting the weekend position. By mutual agreement, the parties may consent to the arrangement on a temporary basis for a predetermined time period. The nurse will return to her or his previous status at the end of the predetermined period. The Association will be notified.
(c) The filling of such positions will not result in the lay-off of any full-time or regular part-time nurse.
(d) Weekend worker positions are not anticipated to have a negative effect on vacation scheduling. Either the Centre or the Association may request a meeting to discuss any concerns that arise. The parties will meet within two

A unit weekend schedule is defined as a schedule in which a full-time employee works a weekly average of thirty (30) hours and is paid thirty-seven and one-half (37½) hours at her or his regular straight time hourly rate. The schedule must include two eleven and one-quarter (11¼) hour tours, which fall within a weekend period as determined by the Employer and the Union. An employee working a weekend schedule will work every weekend except as provided for the provisions below. The introduction of the weekend schedule and the manner in which the position(s) are filled shall be determined by the Hospital and the Union upon written request of an employee(s). This unit schedule may be discontinued by either party with notice as determined during negotiations of the implementation of the schedule. The opportunity for an individual employee to discontinue this schedule shall be resolved by the parties. The following provisions shall apply:
(a) Weekend and shift premiums shall not be paid.
Unit Weekend Schedule. If the Union and the Hospital agree to implement unit weekend schedules according to Article 13.04 of the Collective Agreement, they shall follow the following protocol:
(a) The introduction of each unit weekend schedule will be subject to the written, mutual agreement of the Union and the Hospital;
(b) Where the Hospital identifies a need for a Unit Weekend Schedule or where the Union or a Registered Nurse makes a specific request for a unit weekend schedule, the Hospital will advise the Union and a meeting will be arranged within one calendar week;
(c) The manner in which the position is filled or the schedule is altered will be described at the meeting and will be reduced to writing, including any agreement to waive or modify posting or other provisions, if any, in the Collective Agreement;
(d) The two extended tours will be scheduled between 19:30 Friday and 07:30 Monday. Weekend workers may, in accordance with normal unit shift exchange practice, exchange extended tours with another Registered Nurse during the weekend hours only;
(e) The 7.5 hour tour will normally be scheduled on Friday or Monday. Subject to the normal shift exchange practices of the Unit the nurse may exchange this tour with any other nurse who is working a 7.5 hour tour.
(f) When one Party does not agree with the other Party’s proposal, it will inform the other within one calendar week of the meeting and will provide written reasons to the other Party within two calendar weeks of the meeting. The Parties agree that that the reasons for withholding approval will not be unreasonable or arbitrary;
(g) The Hospital, the Union or the Nurse may discontinue the agreement with six (6) weeks notice to the others. In such an event, the Parties will meet to discuss any issues related to the discontinuance.
(h) Nothing in this agreement shall be construed to mean that the Parties have agreed that the Hospital can fill a position where an employee has not expressed a preference for a unit weekend schedule. F.9 Self-Scheduling

Unit Weekend Schedule. The parties agree that the weekend schedule definition may be specific to each unit where this practice is in place. Every unit wishing to institute a weekend schedule shall do so for a trial period to be determined on a unit specific basis.
