A qualified medical person will be brought on the scene as soon as possible. 6:6 Whenever possible all notices to delay or cancel school openings will be transmitted no later than 6:00 a.m. for announcement over radio stations WILM, WDEL/WSTW and W JBR, email and via School Messenger as well as State and District website postings. In the event of delayed openings, employees are expected to arrive at work as early as possible, taking into consideration the reasons for the delay and the distance traveled. In the event that the employee work day is canceled, such canceled days will not be charged to an employee's vacation or sick leave. 6:7 Any secretarial/clerical employee temporarily transferred to a higher rated classification will receive the higher rate of pay in said classification for the number of days actually worked in such classification. 6:8 The administration will provide secretaries with a safe and secure place for counting of school monies such as the school principal's office, the nurse's office, or other locked facility. No secretary will be required to transport school monies outside the building without an escort. 6:8.1 The District will make a reasonable effort to provide a safe storage space for employees to store their personal articles.

WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 24.1 The personal life timetable for an Occasional Teacher shall be the same as the timetable of the teacher who is being replaced. 24.2 On the first day of an employee will assignment, an Occasional Teacher shall not be required to perform before school supervision duty or bus duty. The duty shall be rescheduled during the day. 24.3 The Board shall provide each occasional teacher with an uninterrupted period for lunch, free from duty and travel, of no concern at least forty (40) minutes per day. 24.4 The school shall provide the following in-school information to Occasional Teachers: a timetable for the Occasional Teacher’s assignment (including supervision periods); an up-to-date class list; a copy of the school’s Code of Conduct. In addition, the Occasional Teacher shall be provided with information pertaining to students with serious medical or behavioural issues, and/or other environmental issues at the school which could impact the Occasional Teacher’s health and safety. 24.5 An Occasional Teacher who is assigned duties at two or more locations on the same day shall be provided with adequate time to travel between the locations. 24.6 An Occasional Teacher who is required to travel between schools as part of their occasional assignment shall be paid for such travel according to Board policy. 24.7 An Occasional Teacher who is called for an assignment who reports to work and finds that their services are not required shall be paid a half-day’s pay for reporting for duty. 24.8 An Occasional Teacher shall not be considered late for an assignment as a result of a late request to report for such assignment provided they arrive within a reasonable time of receiving such a late request. 24.9 In the event of an emergency closure of a school or early dismissal for weather-related reasons, an Occasional Teacher on assignment in the school, shall be paid as follows: a) If the closure or dismissal occurs prior to the Board or District unless it directly impacts lunch break, the work performance of the employee. 6:2 Employees will move sequentially on the salary schedule in annual increments. There will be no loss of pay or sick leave provided the Occasional Teacher has complied with the requirements of the foregoing. 24.16 A Long-term Occasional Teacher who has been reassigned or is no longer able to access employment pending the outcome of an investigation shall be paid regular earnings during the investigation period for employees to store their personal articlesthe original duration of the long-term occasional assignment.

WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 The personal life (1) All conditions of an employee will employment including but not limited to: teaching hours, extra compensation for duties outside regular teaching hours, relief periods, leaves, and general teaching conditions shall be maintained at not less than the minimum standards in effect in the district at the time this agreement is signed. WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 A. The personal life Board and the Association agree that all employees have a primary responsibility, and all energies should be utilized to this end. Therefore, the Board agrees to provide all necessary supplies, materials, and equipment to be utilized in the discharge of an employee's responsibilities. B. WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 The personal life 15.01 An Occasional Teacher who is called out for an assignment at a particular school shall be paid the appropriate rate for that assignment. If the Occasional Teacher does not receive prior notification of an employee the job cancellation and arrives at the school, the Occasional Teacher shall report to the Principal for reassignment to any unfilled vacancy requiring replacement in the school. If the Occasional Teacher is assigned to a vacancy that is of shorter duration than the assignment originally called for, the Occasional Teacher shall work at the school for the length of the original assignment in order to be paid accordingly. If there are no unfilled vacancies requiring replacement, the Occasional Teacher shall work at the school for the length of the original assignment in order to be paid accordingly. Such time shall not constitute supervision/on-call or instructional time. Any assigned supervision duty during the times as outlined above, such as but not limited to, bus duty, hall duty, and/or yard duty shall constitute supervision. It is the responsibility of the Occasional Teacher to advise the school’s Administration if they are unable to fulfill this responsibility. (a) The Board recognizes the importance of providing a workplace free from all notices forms of harassment, including sexual harassment. WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 15.01 The personal life Board recognizes the unique role of the Occasional Teacher and the variety of assignments given. The Board expects that the principal of each school will: 15.01.1 Provide basic school related information to assist the Occasional Teacher at the beginning of the assignment. 15.01.2 Assign only the regular schedule of the teacher being replaced. 15.01.3 Avoid or reschedule early morning yard duty on the first day of an employee assignment. Avoid or reschedule lunch time duty if it is only an afternoon assignment on the first day of an assignment. 15.01.4 Provide bulletin board space for posting of notices that may be of interest to Occasional Teachers. 15.01.5 Ensure that each Occasional Teacher in that school receives a continuous forty-minute lunch period free of teaching or supervision duties. 15.01.6 Provide information pertaining to serious medical, behavioural and/or environmental issues which could impact the Occasional Teachers’ health and safety. 15.01.7 When a case of Fifth Disease is confirmed in a school, an Occasional Teacher in an LTO assignment who is pregnant will be temporarily reassigned, if possible, or remain at home using accumulated sick time until sick leave is depleted. Such time will not constitute a break in the LTO assignment. 15.02 For a one day occasional teaching assignment, if the timetable of no concern the teacher being replaced has more than 40 minutes of planning time, the Principal shall have the prerogative to assign other professional assignments to the Board or District unless it directly impacts Occasional Teacher during that planning time in excess of 40 minutes. 15.03 Should the work performance timetable of the employeeOccasional Teacher include an assignment inappropriate for that Occasional Teacher (e.g. student teacher, admin. time), the Principal shall have the prerogative to re-assign an equivalent professional assignment suitable for the Occasional Teacher. WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 19.01 An Occasional Teacher employed to replace a permanent, probationary or temporary teacher shall be assigned the duties of the teacher replaced subject to the following conditions: (a) A Casual Occasional Teacher will be released from the assigned class during the preparation time portion scheduled for the teacher being replaced. That preparation time is to be covered by the teacher regularly scheduled to provide the preparation time for the absent teacher. Provided, further, that if the School Committee deems that educational circumstances indicate that other changes are warranted, it will notify the Association of the contemplated change and will, upon request of the Association, negotiate with respect to compensation adjustments, if any, which the change might warrant. F. In no event will the change become effective until the September following the commencement of such negotiations, unless otherwise agreed by the parties. G. Any grievance alleging a violation of this Article may be commenced at Step Two of the grievance procedure within ten (10) school days of the date on which the nurse and/or the Association has knowledge or reasonably should have had knowledge of the occurrence of the event upon which the grievance is based. H. Nurses are required to attend In-Service meetings and full faculty meetings without additional compensation at the request of the School Principal or the Director of Student Services. WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 16.01 The personal life school shall provide the Occasional Teacher with a statement of policy concerning school discipline procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 The personal life 14.1 Morning duty, Recess duty, and any other non-classroom duties which are necessary for maintaining a well run school and assuring the safety of an employee the students will be considered part of no concern the regular work day for teachers. Before August 15 the Building Principals shall meet with the President of the Association or his/her designee to discuss the proposed duty schedule for the coming school year. All non-classroom duties will be assigned fairly as is practicable by the administration, among the teachers assigned to each building as scheduling permits. Teachers will be notified of any permanent, non-emergency change to the Board duty schedule during the school year at least five (5) days in advance. Teachers whose teaching assignments are in more than one building shall not be assigned duties. 14.2 The “normal” on-site workday for members shall begin fifteen (15) minutes prior to the beginning of the student day until fifteen (15) minutes after the close of the student day as set forth by board Policy for the 2002-2003 school year. While all teachers are expected on occasion to carry on on-site obligations outside the normal workday, it is understood that these occasions will not be so frequent as to be considered part of the usual daily routine. The preceding sentence is not intended to increase the number of workdays permitted under Article 13.1. 14.3 All bargaining unit members shall be scheduled a duty-free, uninterrupted lunch period equal to the student lunch period. 14.4 The District shall provide teachers with a minimum of 4 unencumbered planning periods per 5- day workweek. For elementary teachers, this planning time shall occur when students are scheduled for art, music, P.E., plus an additional 25 minutes per student day. The current level of planning time shall not be reduced without the consent of both parties. 14.5 Teachers who substitute or District unless it directly impacts are required to perform District-related work resulting in the loss of a planning period will be reimbursed at the rate of $30.00 per hour pro-rated up or down to the nearest fifteen minutes. If this substitution continues for more than ten (10) school days for a position that has not been filled, the teacher shall receive one third (1/3) of their salary for the portion of the work performance year (the fractional portion of the employee187-day work year) that s/he fills this position. No truant officer or registered nurse shall be of no concern to the Board or District unless it directly impacts the work performance of the employee. 6:2 Employees will move sequentially on the salary schedule in annual increments. Whenever the Board acts, by reason of reduction-in-force, to terminate the employment of any employee covered herein, the following procedures shall be followed: (1) The Board shall provide a safe storage space written notice of lay off at least two (2) weeks prior to the effective date (2) Employees shall be selected for employees lay off in inverse order of seniority b. When a vacancy occurs, a laid off employee shall be entitled to store their personal articlesrecall thereto in order of seniority on the appropriate list (i.e. truant officer and registered nurse). c. Notice of recall to work shall be sent to the employee’s last known address. Within seven (7) days of the receipt of such notice, the employee shall notify the Board of acceptance or rejection of this recall. d. Any employee who fails to reply or who indicates a rejection of this recall, shall forfeit all seniority and all rights to further recall. Any employee who indicates an acceptance of the recall shall arrange to report for work within twenty-one (21) days after receipt of the recall or within such period of time as may be set forth in written extension of time granted by the Board or designee. WORKING CONDITIONS. 6:1 16.01 The personal life school shall provide the Occasional Teacher with a statement of policy concerning school discipline procedures. The Board shall ensure that a statement of classroom discipline and classroom procedures is available for each Occasional Teacher. 16.02 The Board agrees that the primary responsibility of the Occasional Teacher is to fulfill the teaching duties of the teacher being replaced and further agrees that support from the school administration in providing supervision and maintaining discipline, shall be provided. (a) An Occasional Teacher shall be assigned only the regularly assigned classroom and supervisory duties of the teacher being replaced. (b) For a Long Term Occasional Teacher, where a full-time teaching assignment is split into two (2) or more assignments, the timetable for each split assignment will be amended where necessary to accommodate the appropriate percentage of preparation time. 16.04 The Board shall instruct each Principal that an Occasional Teacher shall not be assigned yard duty prior to the commencement of class on the first morning of an employee will be of no concern assignment or prior to the Board or District unless it directly impacts the work performance commencement of the employeeafternoon class on the first day if it is a half-day assignment. 6:2 Employees will move sequentially on the salary schedule in annual increments.
