The Lead Design Checker shall not produce any of the design or temporary works designs nor work directly for or report to the Contractor’s Project Manager.
All design documents, drawings, plans, calculations and reports produced by the Contractor and Designer shall be checked by the Design Checker, accompanied by two original copies of a Design Certificate as set out in Attachment – 2, signed by all parties when the design is submitted to the Engineer.
Provided further that structural Lead Design Checker for all works (buildings, retaining walls, subways, over bridges etc) which have the potential to affect the existing/future tracks shall only be an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
The Contractor shall, prior to commencing the construction of the Temporary Works, submit a certificate to the Engineer, based on the ‘Design Certificate' signed by the Lead Designer and the Lead Design Checker, certifying that the Temporary Works have been properly and safely designed and checked, and that the Contractor has checked the effect of the Temporary Works on the Permanent Works and has found this to be satisfactory.
Such activities will only be considered to be ready to commence when the Relevant Designer and the Design Checker (where relevant) have confirmed to PPP Co., in accordance with Part 3 (PPP Co.’s Certification Procedure) of Schedule 6 (Certification Procedure), that the relevant part or parts of the Works are ready for the Tests on Completion to be performed.

The above calculations shall have been certified by the Contractor’s Lead Designer and Lead Design Checker before submitting to the Engineer.
