Common use of Conventions and Conferences Clause in Contracts

Conventions and Conferences. Any member of the Association, duly authorized and designated by the Association to attend Association Conferences/Conventions shall be granted leave without pay by the Fire Chief or his designate insofar as the regular operations of the Fire Department will permit. Such consent will not be unreasonably withheld. In the event that an Employee becomes a full-time official of the Association or affiliate, he/she shall be granted leave of absence for the purpose of carrying out the duties of his/her office, and his/her seniority shall continue as if he/she was continuing in the employment with the Fire Department provided the Employee or Association pay the full costs of the benefits. The Employee shall have the right, on giving one (1) month's notice, to return to his/her previous position or to such other position to which he/she may be eligible for promotion as provided for in this agreement. Extension of this leave shall be reviewed on a yearly basis and an extension shall not be unreasonably withheld. The total amount of this leave shall not exceed four (4) years.
