E-mail and Other Communication Devices. 17.4.1 Unit members have no expectation of privacy for any documents, e-mails or information stored on, sent from, received by, or passing through the information technology resources of the District. 17.4.2 Information technology resources are made available to District staff to improve efficiency, productivity, communications and information exchanged with other District employees, parents and students. 17.4.3 District-provided computers and information technology resources are to be used for official District business purposes during work hours. Unit members may use the computer system and information technology resources for non-business purposes outside of work hours (or during breaks) provided the provisions of all District computer and computer-related policies are followed. 17.4.4 Storing any personal, non-work related files of any kind on a network drive constitutes inappropriate use. Personal files may be stored on a unit member’s local computer; however, the District is not responsible for back-up, recovery or transfer of the files. 17.4.5 It shall be the responsibility of the unit member to ensure that sensitive and confidential material is protected from unauthorized use. 17.4.6 All hardware and software installed on District computers or the District network must be acquired through the District’s technology department. 17.4.7 Unit members are responsible for their District email and will respond to messages received (typically within two (2) work days) as necessary.
