Extended Shifts. The introduction of the extended shift is designed to provide Employees with less days to work in a defined period with no increased cost to the Employer.
a) The parties may agree to modify the hours of work provisions by the negotiation of extended shifts. Under such arrangements, variation in hours of work may occur as the result of shifts of longer than eight (8) hours, but with fewer shifts so that hours do not exceed an average of one hundred and twelve (112) hours per three (3) week period.
b) Extended shift arrangements which have been negotiated will continue until negotiated otherwise or terminated under the terms of the original agreement.
c) When either party terminates a local extended shift agreement, the Employees affected shall return to Standard Hours in accordance with Article 15.01 of the Collective Agreement, by an orderly process as agreed to by the parties.
d) Local agreements for the implementation of twelve (12) hour shifts will normally conform, with modifications as necessary, to the standard extended shift arrangement outlined as follows:
(i) Regular hours of work for Employees shall be eleven point seven eight (11.78) (referred to as twelve [12] hours hereafter) consecutive hours per day. Full-time Employees shall be scheduled for twelve (12), twelve (12) hour shifts and one (1) eight (8) hour shift in a twenty-eight (28) day period. It is agreed that eleven point seven eight (11.78) hours is equivalent to eleven hours (11) and forty-seven
Extended Shifts. The provisions of the Collective Agreement shall apply except where herein amended. Except where otherwise provided, any agreement reached between the Hospital and the Local Union concerning extended shifts will comply with the following provisions: Prior to the implementation of a new extended shift schedule the Hospital will post the proposed schedule rotation prepared in ink at a location it is most likely to come to the attention of employees affected so they can individually evaluate the impact of the schedule. The proposed rotation shall consist of six (6) consecutive weeks and will be posted at least two
Extended Shifts. A meal will be provided to staff that are required to work over 10 hours per day. An additional rest period of 10 minutes shall be allowed for staff that are required to work over 10 hours up to 12 hours. For employees working over 12 hours, and additional 30-minute unpaid meal break shall be allowed. A light meal will be provided.
Extended Shifts. The hours of work for full-time employees in the departments specified will be as follows:
(a) Day shift - Micrographics, Microimaging, Autoplan Document Processing, Customer Collections, Mail Services, Data Services Administration, Litigation, and Facilities.
i) Work day - seven and one-half (7 1/2) hours per day starting no earlier than 7:15 a.m. and ending not later than 6:00 p.m., depending on departmental requirements.
ii) Work week - five (5) days, Monday to Friday.
(b) Second short shift - Customer Collections, Data Services Administration, and Litigation.
i) Work day - six hours and forty-five minutes (6 3/4 hours) per day starting no earlier than 4:00 p.m. and ending not later than 11:00 p.m., including a thirty (30) minute paid lunch period at or near the mid-point of the shift (no paid rest periods as per Article 12.09).
ii) Work week - five (5) days, Monday to Friday.
iii) Employees on the second short shift will be paid the same bi-weekly rate as the day shift with the shift premium paid in the form of reduced hours.
(c) Second Shift - Microimaging, Autoplan Document Processing, Mail Services, Data Services Administration, and Facilities.
i) Work day - seven and one-half (7 1/2) hours per day starting no earlier than 1:00 p.m. and ending not later than 11:30 p.m., depending on departmental requirements, including a thirty (30) minute paid lunch period at or near the mid-point of the shift (no paid rest periods as per Article 12.09).
ii) Work week - five (5) days, Monday to Friday.
iii) The employees will receive the same bi-weekly rate as the day shift, and in addition they will receive a shift premium in accordance with Article 13.01 ii).
(d) Third Shift - Mail Services
i) Work day - seven and one-half (7 1/2) hours per day starting no earlier than 12:00 midnight and ending not later than 8:00 a.m., with a thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch period at or near the mid-point of the shift.
ii) Work week - five (5) days, Monday to Friday.
iii) The employees will receive the same bi-weekly rate as the day shift, and in addition they will receive a shift premium in accordance with Article 13.01 ii).
Extended Shifts. (a) Extended shifts is defined as the consecutive hours worked in excess of the Employee’s normal work day where prior to the end of the shift the Employee is notified accordingly. An extended shift is not a call-out.
(b) When an extended shift is needed for an individual or crew, the Company will be obligated to furnish a hot meal after the first hour of the extended period. Exceptions to this may be agreed to on a local basis, but in no case would the cost exceed the above stipulated benefit.
(c) The parties to this Agreement recognize that from time to time extension of shifts will be required because of the nature of the work involved. However, the Company pledges that there will not be a flagrant abuse of shift extensions and further, when they are required, such extensions should be divided equitably among the Employees if possible. The work schedules lend themselves to this application.
(d) Shift extensions as they apply to such maintenance Employees and electricians working the day shift shall not exceed one (1) hour in accordance with present practice. It is understood that overtime work required in excess of the one (1) hour shall be assigned in accordance with the provisions of Article 20, section 20.01, subsections (c) and (d).
Extended Shifts. For Regular Full-time Employees including those who are regularly scheduled to work shifts in excess of eight (8) hours:
(1) Any benefit day (e.g. sick days, holidays, vacation days, bereavement days, scheduled days off without loss of pay), shall equal eight (8) hours.
(2) Any deductions made for time off with pay (e.g. sick days, holidays, vacation days, bereavement days, scheduled days off without loss of pay), shall be equal to the number of hours off with pay.
Extended Shifts. Section 1. Upon thirty (30) calendar days’ notice to the Union and the affected employees, the Employer may establish new shifts or modify the duration of existing shifts and alter the starting and ending times of any shift in order to meet scheduling and patient care needs. Employees and the Union will be given an opportunity to present ideas, information and suggestions pertinent to the announced change prior to implementation of the proposed change. Such discussions shall not delay the implementation of the proposed change.
Section 2. Extended shifts shall be defined as those shifts that are more than the regularly scheduled eight (8) hour shift, inclusive of the thirty (30) minute unpaid meal period.
Section 3. Ten (10) hour shifts will be defined as:
a.) a full-time employee will be defined as one who is regularly scheduled to work three (3) nine and one half (9½) hour shifts and a nine (9) hour shift in a given work week or three (3) ten (10) hour shifts and one (1) seven and one-half (7½) hour shift per week;
