Fatigue Management. 12.1.1. Mater and Medical Officers recognise that fatigue management is critical to safe work practices. A contemporary approach in addition to the fatigue provisions outlined in Part 12 below will be developed which confirms that Mater and Medical Officers must work together to ensure: (a) All Medical Officers are safe from fatigue hazards while at work; (b) When a Medical Officer is fatigued, they will have access to facilities where they can rest; (c) Patients will receive safe health care at Mater Health Services. 12.1.2. It is expected that this approach will address these principles and provide a framework that will apply at Mater. Work on a draft of this approach will commence by the nominal expiry date of this Agreement. 12.1.3. Further, it is expected that at the local departmental level, a risk assessment will be undertaken and a pre-arranged process will be implemented to manage fatigue where required.
