Internal Substitution. Pay Rate 3
Internal Substitution. The administration will make every reasonable effort to secure a substitute teacher when a teacher is absent. If a substitute teacher is not available, either in the middle school or elementary buildings, any teacher who accepts a class which requires the forfeiture of his/her preparation period will be compensated at the proportionate share of thirty five dollars ($35.00) per clock hour. If no teacher agrees to accept the assignment voluntarily, then the administration may assign a teacher(s) to do so on a rotating basis. Every attempt will be made to give teachers as much notice as possible when they are to be assigned to internal substitution.
Internal Substitution. Internal substitution is discouraged for all but emergency situations. In an effort to deal with those emergency situations, each building principal will, at the beginning of every year, compile a list of those teachers who would volunteer to do internal substitution and when each would be available to substitute. In those situations where it is necessary to utilize an internal substitute, those teachers who have volunteered would be asked to substitute on a rotating basis. If there is no regular substitute or volunteer available, the principal or his/her designee may assign a teacher to substitute. This involuntary assignment shall also be administered on a rotating basis among all available teachers. No teacher shall be required to perform involuntary substitutions more than three (3) times each school year. Any teacher who substitutes shall be compensated at the negotiated internal substitution rate. A teacher will not monitor another teacher’s class while his/her class is in session.
Internal Substitution. A teacher may be assigned by administration to substitute for an absent teacher. In such event, that teacher shall be compensated at $25.00 per hour for each hour or portion of an hour substituted.
Internal Substitution. Interested teachers may volunteer as internal substitutes for colleagues who experience a need for an approved absence from duties. In order to provide such substitute service, the teacher will have administrative approval in order to forfeit plan time to perform the substitute duties. The names of teachers willing to occasionally substitute will be placed on a list compiled by the building administration and substitute opportunities will be rotated among those teachers who volunteer to be placed on the list. Teachers who are called upon to provide the substitute service will be paid at the rate of $40 per hour, prorated to actual time worked. The decision on whether to use any of the listed volunteer teachers and which one(s) will be within the discretion of the building administration. The District and ATA leadership will annually monitor the frequency of the use of teachers to provide internal substitute duties. F Nothing herein, however, shall prohibit special arrangements by mutual agreement or other actions by the Board or its designees necessary to deal with certain unusual or emergency situations.
