Common use of Leave for Union Position Clause in Contracts

Leave for Union Position. One employee who is elected or appointed to a full-time position with the Union, shall upon proper notice, be granted leave of absence without pay, for a period not to exceed the term of this Agreement. Such employee, upon one month's notice of his/her desire to return to work with the Company, shall subject to his/her seniority and ability to satisfactorily perform the required work, be placed in the position previously held or one at an equal rate of pay. If such positions are not available the employee shall, subject to seniority and ability, be placed on a job he/she can satisfactorily perform, retaining the seniority possessed at the time such leave of absence was granted.
