Common use of Meal Breaks and Rest Breaks Clause in Contracts

Meal Breaks and Rest Breaks. Employees shall be allowed an unpaid break of thirty (30) minutes for a meal during their ordinary working hours. A rest break of fifteen minutes each day shall be granted to all employees. Such rest break will be counted as time worked and taken at a time fixed by the employer provided that the rest break shall not be granted within one hour of normal commencement or cessation of work or within one hour either side of a meal break. The same amount of meal and rest breaks will also apply to shift work. No employee shall be required to work longer than five hours without a meal break.
