Nurses’ Status While on Mandatory Low-Census. The Medical Center 17 will provide an alternate assignment (e.g. alternate patient care 18 assignment, Health Stream mandatory education, chart audits, 19 department projects, break relief) within nursing services to the nurse 20 prior to any mandatory low census. The nurse may choose voluntary 21 low census in lieu of the alternate assignment. A nurse may be placed 22 by the Medical Center in one (1) of the following three (3) categories if 23 they have not reached their cap: (a) Full Low Census. This means that the nurse is not obligated to the 25 Medical Center for that shift. 27 (b) Partial Day Low Census. The nurse will be placed on standby for 28 the patient care unit and/or cluster (for those units in a cluster) for 29 a portion of the shift and will be given a scheduled time to report 30 to work for a portion of the shift at the nurse’s straight-time hourly 31 rate.
