Nurses’ Status While on Voluntary Low-Census. A nurse may agree to 31 be placed by the Medical Center in one (1) of the following three (3) 32 categories by mutual agreement:
1 (a) Full Low Census. This means that the nurse is not obligated to the 2 Medical Center for that shift.
Nurses’ Status While on Voluntary Low-Census. Before the Start of the Shift. The Medical Center will, consistent with operational and patient care needs, make its best efforts to honor a nurse’s preference for voluntary low census. When volunteering for low census, the nurse may ask to be placed on either (1) full shift low census with or without standby, or (2) partial shift low census with or without standby, but with a scheduled partial shift of either four, six or eight hours (10- or 12-hour night shift nurses will have a partial shift length of 8 hours). If the nurse is called in to work during the time the nurse is on voluntary standby, the standby provisions of this contract will apply.

7 i. With Standby for the patient care unit and/or cluster (for 8 those units in a cluster). The nurse will be placed on standby 9 for a portion of the shift and will be given a scheduled time to 10 report to work for a portion of the shift at the nurse’s straight- 11 time hourly rate.
13 ii. Without Standby. The nurse will be given a scheduled time 14 to report to work for a portion of the shift at the nurse’s 15 straight-time hourly rate, but will not be placed on standby 16 for the other portion of the shift. 18 (c) Standby Shift for the patient care unit and/or cluster and/or cluster 19 (for those units in a cluster), by mutual agreement. Nurses may be 20 placed on standby, and if called into work, the standby provisions 21 of this contract will apply (provided, however, that a nurse 22 assigned “Low Census Standby” will have one hour to report to 24 reverse order of signing up.
