Professional Development Leaves. An employee may request, pursuant to Article 22, Leaves of Absence Without Pay, of this Agreement, a professional development leave without pay directly of benefit to the campus. Such requests may include leaves to:
Professional Development Leaves. 8.6.1 As approved by the Board, professional study, research, or continuing educational leaves without pay may be granted for up to twelve (12) months, and shall, except for serious reasons, be renewable for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months. Upon the mutual agreement of the faculty member, the administration, and the departmental faculty, the leave may be extended beyond the second twelve (12) month period. Professional development leave, except leave taken to fulfill a degree requirement as specified in the departmental bylaws or any part of Article V, Section 5.5.5 of this Agreement, will count toward probationary period for tenure, promotion, and salary increment, subject to the review and approval of the department head, ▇▇▇▇, and ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The conditions of appointment which prevailed prior to granting of leave shall likewise prevail when the faculty member returns to active service. A faculty member granted such leave shall provide to the faculty member’s department head by January 1 of the year prior to the faculty member’s return a written statement of the faculty member’s commitment to return to the University. Failure to provide such notification shall be considered as a resignation. 8.6.2 A faculty member who is granted a professional development leave is entitled to continue University hospitalization and medical benefits as provided in article 9.2 and its subsections. 8.6.3 A faculty member who is granted a professional development leave is entitled to tuition scholarship benefits for the faculty member, spouse, and dependent children as described in Article IX, Section 9.2.7. 8.6.4 The benefits described in Sections 8.6.2 and 8.6.3 are extended to the faculty member with the stipulation that should the faculty member not return to employment at the University for a period of two (2) years the cost of these benefits must be repaid to the University.
Professional Development Leaves. Eligibility 17.1 A faculty employee shall be eligible to apply for a Professional Development Leave of one, two, or three quarters under this article if he or she: 17.1.1 Is employed as a regular faculty employee in a non-management position; 17.1.2 Has rendered service to the District as a contract or regular faculty employee who is employed at least half time for at least 18 consecutive quarters preceding the academic year in which the leave is to be taken; 17.1.3 Notwithstanding Section 17.1.2, a regular faculty employee may apply any unused quarters of service earned in a former management position towards the eligibility requirements specified in Section 17.1.2 provided the three most recent quarters of service preceding the academic year in which the leave commences were earned as a regular faculty employee; and 17.1.4 Has not taken any other paid professional leave during the eighteen quarters preceding the academic year in which the leave is to be taken. Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, if the leave is taken in separate years as provided in Section 17.2, the intervening quarters may be counted toward eligibility for subsequent leaves. For purposes of eligibility all quarters of service in active employment status between the first quarter of the year in which the leave is taken and the final quarter of the year in which the leave is completed (17.2) shall count toward eligibility for subsequent leaves (see Appendix P4). No absence from the service of the District under a leave of absence shall be deemed a break in the continuity of service required by this section. However, time spent on an unpaid leave of one quarter or more shall not count toward a period of service.
Professional Development Leaves. Teaching Faculty Members who are on Professional Development Leave in the July to December six (6) month period are assessed at the same time as other Teaching Faculty Members. Teaching Faculty Members who are on a Professional Development Leave for a complete Academic Term or more in the January to June six (6) month period will be assessed in November after their performance evaluation as set out in Article 17.02 e). Any CDI will be retroactive to July 1.

Professional Development Leaves. 5.1.1 The purpose of the professional development program outlined below is designed to help employees achieve and maintain the highest level of spiritual and professional keenness. This program is intended to be flexible and accessible, allowing for leaves of varying lengths and eligibility requirements. 5.1.2 Leave privileges shall be for study purposes so that the individual will be able to make a more effective contribution toward the total program of the Church. 5.1.3 Two types of professional development leaves are available:
Professional Development Leaves. V.3.1 For every five (5) years of continuous service, Senior Lecturers shall be entitled to six (6) months of paid leave for professional development. Eligible members must provide an application to the relevant ▇▇▇▇. V.3.2 Following the leave, members must provide a summary report of the professional development activities to the relevant ▇▇▇▇.
Professional Development Leaves. (A) The purpose of a professional development leave is to increase the effectiveness of the Librarian to the University, the library, and to afford that Librarian an opportunity for professional development. (B) Eligibility (1) A Librarian who has been given permanent status shall be eligible for a professional development leave. (2) Librarians approved for a professional development leave by the ▇▇▇▇ will have the option of taking a leave not to exceed seven (7) calendar weeks in duration. No Librarian may be approved for more than two (2) leaves in any five (5) year period. (3) Librarians approved for a professional development leave by the ▇▇▇▇ will have the option, if working on an article for a peer reviewed journal, to take a leave not to exceed ten (10) calendar weeks in duration once every five years. (4) Professional development leaves are contingent upon staffing and scheduling requirements and may be denied by the ▇▇▇▇ if the professional development leave does not meet the purpose set forth in 24.8.3 (A). (5) The professional development leave plan and schedule of activities must be approved, in writing, by the ▇▇▇▇, prior to a Librarian taking such leave. (C) Application for professional development leave. An application for such leave shall include the following: (1) The presentation of a written plan for professional development activities. The plan shall include specific professional development activities, goals, and other related information; times, schedules, etc. (2) The Librarian's agreement to return to service with the University for one (1) academic year (unless waived in writing by the ▇▇▇▇) following successful completion of the leave. Should a Librarian not return to the University pursuant to the above, he/she agrees to refund the compensation paid to him/her by the University during the professional development leave. (3) The Librarian's agreement to submit a written report (unless waived by the ▇▇▇▇) on the extent to which he or she achieved the purpose the leave was granted. This report shall be submitted to the ▇▇▇▇ and the Professional Development Leave Committee within thirty (30) days of the conclusion of such leave.
Professional Development Leaves. All professional employees shall be allowed two (2) professional development days’ pay per school year for the purpose of visiting other schools, attending conferences and workshops. A written application must be submitted to the applicant’s principal or the superintendent of schools at least five (5) school days prior to the date of the professional development leave requested. If approved by the building principal and superintendent, the registration fees will be paid by the district. A district vehicle will be provided for transportation. If a district vehicle is not available, the professional employee will be paid for mileage at the then current Kansas Private Vehicle Mileage Rate. In the event that more than one professional employee attends the same conference or workshop, only one mileage will be paid. In addition, professional employees may be granted additional professional development leave to attend conferences and workshops upon the approval of the superintendent and building principal. (2016)
