PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. A range of professional development opportunities are available for academic staff in the University. This may include, but is not limited to:
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. It is anticipated that no less than $40,000 will be expended annually as described in this provision. Emphasis shall be placed upon resolution of the needs relating to mainstreaming and development of the IEP (Individualized Educational Program). In- service needs will be solicited from the building and program level staff. It is expected that funds may also be used for registration fees and Employee compensation beyond the regular work day/week. All programs and projects will be approved by the Department of Learning and Teaching.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. The building administrator(s), together with the Building Leadership Team, will make recommendations based on data, including but not limited to Teacher Based Teams' input, concerning the development and presentation of professional development programs to the District Leadership Team for review and consideration. In the event the District schedules a Professional Development opportunity for bargaining unit members outside of the regular workday, the opportunity shall be voluntary. A bargaining unit member’s attendance or non-attendance shall not be reflected in any part of the OTES Evaluation Cycle.

The Committee will serve under the leadership of the Director of Learning and Teaching and make recommendations directly to the Superintendent through the Director of Learning and Teaching. Further, the Berkshire Hills Education Association agrees to provide financial assistance of $1,000 annually to support professional development programming.

In recognizing that there are many methods by which a teacher may improve his or her professional background, the District will pay towards the reasonable expenses (including fees, lodging, and transportation) incurred by teachers who attend workshops, seminars, conferences, school visits, or other professional improvements sessions at the request and/or with the advance approval of the appropriate Principal or Superintendent. Upon request of the teacher or administrator, and with the approval of the Superintendent, leaves shall be granted for the purpose of visiting other schools or attending meetings or conferences of an educational nature. All professional development requests need to have written pre-approval of the Principal or immediate supervisor. Such approval shall be distributed equitably. Further, the Berkshire Hills Education Association agrees to provide financial assistance of $1,000 annually to support professional development programming.

Inservice needs will be solicited from the building and program level staff. It is expected that funds may also be used for registration fees and Employee compensation beyond the regular work day/week. All programs and projects will be approved by the Department of Learning and Teaching. a. Inservice for all Employees as this relates to a better understanding of mainstreaming and IEP's. b. Inservice shall be provided for general education classroom Employees receiving students with disabilities. The training shall include, but not be limited to: (1) Defining the handicapping condition; (2) Methods and materials successful in working with that handicapping condition; (3) Teacher responsibilities under IDEA or any other statute, policy, rule or regulation; (4) District and other resources available to assist in working with the child. c. Appropriate inservice for special education Employees so as to assist them in the development of IEP's. d. Appropriate released time for staff members to work with the Department of Learning and Teaching in the planning of inservice sessions for general and special education staff consistent with professional development activities. e. Appropriate released time for staff members to participate in planned inservice sessions relating to mainstreaming and IEP preparation. f. Attendance at conferences relating to the above special education issues. g. Before choosing to use an inclusion model for special needs students, the District will provide appropriate training for the staff involved; except staff member and principal may request inclusion for a particular classroom and waive training.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. When Galaxy establishes professional development programs, it shall inform the Implementation Committee of the programs available to the Cree Employees of Galaxy so that the Implementation Committee may identify for such employees other existing training programs and measures, if any, offered by third parties, including Cree educational organizations. The Implementation Committee shall then make recommendations to the Parties regarding such complementary training programs and measures.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. The Superintendent shall receive an amount not to exceed one thousand two hundred fifty dollars ($1,250) during each fiscal year for reimbursement of tuition and mandatory fees for professional improvement courses, seminars, and/or professional development programs. Annual expenses for the purposes of this section shall be subject to the approval of the Committee. All out-of-state activities shall be subject to the approval of the Committee Chair.
