Purpose of Sabbatical. 3.1 The purpose of a self-funded sabbatical is to provide employees with an opportunity to refresh and re-energise their careers and as such, there are no prescribed activities that a sabbatical must involve.

Purpose of Sabbatical. 2.1 A Sabbatical has two important purposes: Firstly, through supporting academic staff to pursue a range of projects seen as valuable and relevant to the University and to the individual, it is an important strategy to augment the standing and reputation of the University and that of the individual academic. Secondly, it is an important strategy in the University's commitment to "attract, develop and retain high quality staff". Sabbaticals are an important feature of academic life that provide academics with release from teaching, administrative and related duties to pursue research and other scholarly work that requires uninterrupted periods of time, including the scholarly pursuit of teaching. 2.2 The University supports sabbaticals through a generous system of travel grants to enable staff to leave the Perth metropolitan area to pursue their research.

  • Sabbatical (a) After every six years of service, an employee may apply for sabbatical leave of three months, or other agreed period, on full pay, whether as a continuous period or a series of separate periods, to spend time at other clinical units or centres, universities or research institutes or working (or volunteering) for a medical charity for the purposes of strengthening or acquiring clinical knowledge or skills or undertaking an approved course of study or research in matters relevant to their clinical practice.

  • Approved Leave of Absence With Pay During Vacation When an employee is qualified for compassionate leave, sick leave, or any other approved leave with pay during their vacation period, there will be no deduction from the vacation credits for such leave. In the case of sick leave, this section will only apply when the period of illness or injury is in excess of two days and a note from a qualified medical practitioner may be required. The period of vacation so displaced will be taken at a mutually agreed time. An employee intending to claim displaced vacation leave must advise the Employer and provide necessary documentation within seven days of returning to work.

  • Leave of Absence With Pay 1. A leave of absence with pay shall be granted to any employee who serves on a jury or as a witness for the federal government, the State of Nevada, or a political subdivision thereof. The employee shall be paid his/her regular salary while on court leave and retain any witness or jury duty fees, when summoned for jury duty or serving as a witness in any case. When an employee, serving in his/her official capacity as a County employee and as part of his/her required duties, serves as a witness in any case, he shall not receive witness fees. Per diem and transportation costs may be paid by the requesting jurisdiction, considering such variables as whether or not the case is a criminal or civil matter, whether it is in State or out-of-state, the length of time the employee is required to stay away from the job and who receives ultimate benefit from the County employee’s testimony. Court leave shall not be charged to any employee’s annual leave balance. 2. When it is impractical for a registered voter to vote before or after his/her normal working hours, an employee will be granted sufficient time to vote.
