Common use of Recognition of Stewards Clause in Contracts

Recognition of Stewards. (a) The Employer recognizes the Union's right to appoint stewards and the Union shall notify the Employer of such appointments, in writing. A ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ shall obtain the permission of his/her supervisor prior to leaving his/her work duties as an employee, and indicate to the Employer the approximate time of return, when attending to Union duties relating to the Employer's operations. Should the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ require additional time to attend to the matter, he/she will receive prior permission regarding any extension required. Leave for this purpose shall be with current pay and permission shall not be unreasonably withheld. On resuming his/her duties the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ shall notify his/her supervisor. (b) The duties of stewards shall include but are not limited to: (1) investigation of complaints of an urgent nature; (2) investigation of grievances and assisting any employee whom the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ represents in presenting a grievance in accordance with the grievance procedure; (3) supervision of ballot boxes and other related functions during Union votes; (4) attending meetings at the request of the Employer. (c) Upon request and subject to a recognized lack of other facilities, the Employer will not unreasonably withhold approval to utilize Employer assembly rooms for the purpose of the election of a Union ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ on the employees' time. This article is subject to the availability of a suitable employee who shall accept responsibility for the care of equipment and facilities in the place of work while the election is being conducted.
