Schedule of Hours. 7.01 A regular work week shall not exceed forty (40) hours - Monday to Friday inclusive, with ½ hour for lunch. On a voluntary basis, the employee may elect to work 44 hours per week at straight time. All such requests shall be in writing and signed by the employee. 7.02 All work done during periods other than herein before provided shall be overtime work and shall be paid for whether time-work or piece-work at the rate of time-and- one-half for hourly rated workers and time-and-one-half of average hourly earnings for piece-workers. 7.03 Overtime work will not be scheduled when notice of a Union meeting has been given to the Company. 7.04 Unless otherwise notified, when a worker reports for work and there is no regular work available, the worker is guaranteed four (4) hours of other work, which he must accept at his or her average rate of pay or four (4) hours pay, excepting where cause of failure to provide work has occurred due to circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Company. 7.05 Workers are to be compensated while waiting for work when asked to wait or when the Company fails to provide work during working hours or waiting as a result or machine failure, at his or her average rate, unless the failure is due to circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Company. 7.06 In a slack period when there is not sufficient work for all employees, the available work shall be divided as equally as possible among all employees. If the majority of employees work twenty-four (24) hours a week or less for two (2) consecutive weeks, in the third (3rd) week of short working time, employees will be laid off by plant seniority provided that the remaining employees are competent to do the available work based on normal requirements of the job.
