Sixth Class Assignments – Paramount High School campuses. If after the development of the master schedule, but in no event later than the end of six weeks from the beginning of the school year, the District determines it does not have enough sections in a subject area (e.g. history, math, English) to form a full- time equivalent teaching position or if the District, upon completion of the interview process, is unable to employ a qualified and competent teacher for such a position if one were formed, the following procedure shall be utilized in assigning teachers to teach a fifth or sixth class in lieu of their preparation periods. 1. No teacher shall be assigned sixth class involuntarily if there are teachers willing to accept the assignment on a voluntary basis, including those volunteers who have an appropriate credential authorization but are not currently teaching in the department in which the sixth class assignment exists. 2. When more than one teacher wishes to receive a specific voluntary or sixth class assignment, that teacher with the most departmental seniority within the department of the assignment from among those applicants having the appropriate credential authorization shall receive the assignment. If two or more applicants have the same departmental seniority, the one with the greatest District seniority shall be selected. a. A teacher on a remediation design shall not be eligible for a sixth class assignment until they are off the remediation design. 3. Involuntary sixth class assignments shall not be made in an arbitrary and capricious manner.
