Special Day Classes Sample Clauses
The 'Special Day Classes' clause defines the provision of specialized educational programs designed for students with particular needs, typically those requiring more intensive support than can be provided in a general education setting. These classes are structured to offer tailored instruction, smaller class sizes, and additional resources to address specific learning, behavioral, or developmental challenges. By establishing the framework for such classes, the clause ensures that students who cannot be adequately served in mainstream classrooms receive appropriate educational opportunities, thereby promoting inclusivity and compliance with educational mandates.
Special Day Classes. The District shall utilize the Special Education Local Plan Agency (SELPA) placement guidelines for Special Day Classes. The Director of Special Education shall establish a committee of Special Education teachers and site administrators to review the class size ratios of Special Day Classes. In determining the appropriate class size for a Special Day Class, the District shall consider the following criteria: • Range and severity of disabilities/handicaps; • Student’s age and behavioral variables; • Extent of need for individual instruction; • Amount of time student is enrolled in special classes and/or participates in regular classrooms; and • Current class size.
Special Day Classes. For the first student over 14, one additional hour of aide time will be provided daily, and for each student over 15, an additional 30 minutes of aide time will be provided daily.

To the extent possible, classes containing the most severely handicapped students Moderate-Severe classes will be maintained at the lower end of the a range of six (6) to fourteen (14) thirteen (13) pupils.range. Should the class size reach fourteen (14), the affected Unit Member may request additional resources from the Senior Director of Special Education Services/SELPA. This Memorandum of Understanding shall remain in effect beginning July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, and thereafter shall revert back to Article VIII of the Certificated Collective Bargaining Agreement. This MOU shall not be construed as a precedent for any future circumstance or as establishing a past practice for any purpose.
